Sheridan Cain - The Teeny Weeny Tadpole

Every creature that the teeny weeny tadpole meets seems to be able to jump, except him.
Then he meets the big bad fish who can't jump, but he does eat little tadpoles. What is Tadpole going to do?

Life Cycle of a Frog
By Steffani H. Gilligan
Tadpoles grow through,
Many different stages.
You will learn all about it,
In your science book pages.
It all begins in water,
With some tiny eggs.
Inside all nice and cozy,
You’ll find frogs without any legs.
See, when a frog is little,
He’s not called frog at all.
The name for him is tadpole.
We use this when he’s small.
He looks more like a fish.
His body is round and black.
He has a tail and swims.
When he’s free from his egg sack.
He’s busy and he’s growing.
Now, from tadpole to froglet.
Each day he’s getting bigger.
But he’s not quite done yet.
Hanging down, you see legs.
His tail will soon go away.
He’ll have 4 new legs for hopping.
And be a full-fledged frog one day.
When that fine day comes,
No longer breathing with gills.
He’ll hop out of the water.
Inhaling air as his lungs fill.
He leaves the pond behind.
He is an adult amphibian.
But in the pond, you’ll find new eggs.
And the life cycle will begin again.

Gung Gung Went the Little Green Frog:
Gung gung went the little green frog one day,
Gung, gung went the little green frog.
Gung, gung went the little green frog one day,
and his eyes went eeh, eeh, gung!

Five Green and Speckled Frogs:
Five green and speckled frogs,
Sat on a speckled log
Eating the most delicious bugs, yum yum.
One frog jumped in the pool,
Where the water's nice and cool,
Now there are four green speckled frogs.
Four green and speckled frogs...
(Repeat , working your way down to one.)
One little speckled frog sitting,
Sitting on a speckled log,
Eating the most delicious bugs,
Yum, yum.
He jumped into the pool,
Where it was nice and cool,
Then there were no little speckled frogs.

I Have a Little Frog
I have a little frog
His name is Tiny Tim,
I put him in the bathtub,
To see if he could swim,
He drank up all the water,
And gobbled up the soap!
And when he tried to talk
He had a BUBBLE in his throat!

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY
Use of sequencing spots as lily pads – (these could be placed on individual
mats).
Walk ‘in’ and ‘out’ of all the spaces. Stop on command and bounce towards a
‘lily pad’ and perform a ‘big bounce on to the spot’.
Repeat.
Bounce on the spot. Stop. Repeat.
Walk to new spaces, stop and bounce on the spot. Repeat.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Travel close to the floor, along the floor – ‘Can you wiggle like the tadpole?’
‘What other body parts can you wiggle on?’
Jump for Distance – (two feet to two feet) Find a line in the hall, put your feet
to the line and swing your arms to help you jump forwards. Find a new line
and try again.
Collect a small hoop each. Show all the different ways you can jump out,
round and across your hoop.
Take care when jumping ‘across’ the hoop – hoops can be taped down using
masking tape.
